SCC: THE STUDIO GHIBLI TRIBUTE EXHIBITION
It's been a while since some decent artist update! Well, I have been trying to recover from a few medical issues that needed some work over the past month. Due to this, I haven't been able to finish some of my commissions and some other drawing projects. But last July 1, I was able to visit the Ghibli Tribute Exhibition wherein my work, Meow At First Sight was displayed. I just went through an overdue dental surgery and I thought I still had the energy to see the show, mouth numb and slightly drooling and all. And oh what a great show it was!
The place was packed with Ghibli fans from all ages and there was an artist alley with great fanart and original art! I got to say hi to friends after my semi-hiatus and it was just pure fun. I am so glad to be part of the three day tribute show. And more of proud of my friends who created and developed Sketchbook Challenge Cebu to become a proper organization holding awesome art exhibitions and events. The show was covered by the local news and I'm happy to see my friends talk about this amazing thing they've made. I'm hoping this would be an annual thing.
Here I am, still numb from the medical drugs probably, looking silly and weird with my artwork above me--too happy to have some classy composure. Meow At First Sight is my fan tribute to Ghibli's The Cat Returns/Neko no Ongaeshi. It's a still moment from Baron and Haru's dance in the Cat King's court. It's a lovely and romantic moment that I personally loved from the movie. It was made with graphite on watercolor paper and added digital color. The full illustration is below.
I'd like to personally congratulate and thank fellow artists; Eumir Carlo Fernandez (founder of Sketchbook Challenge Cebu) and Veronika Hipolito (head organizer of the tribute show) for the successful event!
