ARCHCon 2017 Artist Alley: The Drawer Kring

thedrawerkring

The Drawer Kring had her first artist alley at Anime, RPG, Comics and Hobby Convention at Robinsons Galleria, Cebu City last October 29! Bookmarks, postcards, collections, framed and unframed portraits including commissioned works have been sold out at the event. The Cabinet finally had its debut as well as the drawer with my sketches. Fellow artists sold similar merchandise at their booths too!

The Zodiac Collection is a new set of prints created for the event. It's a 12 piece card set that portrayed either meaning of the sign or its origin through illustration, poetry and stories. Several excerpt from famous poets and writers were illustrated as suits for the cards. For example, the sign of Gemini shows a woman and a ghostly, bony and shadowy figure looming behind her as if a mirrored pose. This illustrates a few lines from Edgar Allan Poe's Silence.

A type of that twin entity which springs
From matter and light, evinced in solid and shade.
There is a two-fold Silence—sea and shore—
Body and soul. One dwells in lonely places,
Newly with grass o’ergrown; some solemn graces,
Some human memories and tearful lore,
Render him terrorless: his name’s “No More.”

Other excerpts are from Homer's Illiad, Roald Dahl, Herman Melville and even Sylvia Plath's short poems. All copies of the set were completely sold out within a few hours!

Needless to say, the event was a success and thank you to all the people who came by, purchased my work and talked about their passion and enthusiasm about art. I am so happy to meet all of you, you're all very wonderful. Thank you to ARCHCon Cebu for such a beautifully designed and well-organized event! And especially to Ms. Hannah Lee, our fellow artist alley participant and facilitator. And boundless gratitude to my partner, The Strangefellow, who was with me the whole day, who took the salesman act; oozing with charisma and patience (while I did on-the-spot drawings and buried my face in graphite and paper)!

I'm so proud of The Drawer for this event and I hope to be her again for future meetings.  A lot of people have been asking if I'd be doing a Tarot collection and I'm glad to mention that it's definitely a future project I'd be very happy to work on! I'm making small steps towards the 26-72 card set goal and a new collection will be revealed--SOON! But until then, I will be sharing the Zodiac Collection with everyone else as much as I can. See you at the next artist alley! Thank you so much for the support~!
